TG53 - Postgraduate Research Training in Building and Construction: Progress Report
Given the importance of appropriate research training in the built environment field and based upon its progress, the Task Group has been awarded a mandate extension. Planned activities include meetings and workshops and a major publication on good practice guidelines.
TG61 - Benchmarking Construction Performance Data/W117 - Performance Measurement in Construction: Task Group Upgrade into Working Commission
This upgrade will bring a sense of permanency within a group keen for developing the area of Benchmarking Construction Performance data further. The programme includes a living database of performance metrics, methodologies and results available online and a designated journal.
W055 - Building Economics: Introducing a new Joint Coordinator
Prof. Dr. Les Ruddock, University of Salford, United Kingdom, was appointed Joint Coordinator of CIB W055. Les Ruddock is Professor of Construction and Property Economics. The former TG56 - Macroeconomics for Construction, of which he was Coordinator, merged with W055.
W069 - Housing Sociology: Report of the Conference held in June 2008 in Tallinn, Estonia
The theme for the W069 Conference was ‘Ways of Residing in Trans-disciplinary Focus’. Topics discussed included residential preferences and lifestyles; innovation bound to time-space and cultural challenges; and residential heritage and the respective strategic responses; residential policies and sustainability.
W112 - Culture in Construction: Introducing a new Joint Coordinator
Prof.Dr. Anita Liu, Loughborough University, United Kingdom, was appointed Joint Coordinator of W112 to succeed Prof. Richard Fellows. She is Professor of Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying at the Department of Civil and Building Engineering.
W112 - Culture in Construction: Report of the Conference held in November 2008 in Shanghai, China PR
The Theme of the conference was “Securing High Performance through Cultural Awareness and Dispute Avoidance”. The conference consisted of lively and informative discussions and debate. A special PC Commendation was handed over to the retiring Coordinator Professor Richard Fellows.
W114 - Earthquake Engineering and Buildings: Report from two International Workshops on Response Control and Seismic Isolation of Buildings for Earthquake Disaster Mitigation
This article includes reports on the Workshop on Response Control and Seismic Isolation of Buildings in Guangzhou, China, and the Workshop on Response Control and Seismic Isolation of Buildings for Earthquake Disaster Mitigation in Nanjing, China, both in November 2008.
W117 - Performance Measurement in Construction: Report of the Commission Meeting and 2009 Annual Best Value PBSRG Conference, February 2009
At the W117 Annual Meeting on February 9, 2009 attention was given to the TG61 accomplishments that includes: Research Tests in the Netherlands and in Botswana, and an international Journal and to the W117 Strategy that includes: a worldwide Center of Knowledge, and the creation of the "Young Guns".

CIB-UN Contract on Procurement of Sustainable Buildings
UNEP and CIB have agreed to co-operate to prepare a Procurement Handbook for Sustainable Buildings. The Handbook will primarily address procurement conducted by the UN but should be relevant for buildings procurement in other public and private organizations as well.
Integrated Design Solutions: CIB IDS Priority Theme Takes Action
The IDS Priority Theme aims at speeding up adaptation of techniques and practices that guide traditional document-based work towards the use of integrated building information modelling (BIM). Aspects of People – Processes – Technology, must be borne in mind simultaneously.

CIB Co-Sponsored: PATORREB 2009 - 3rd Conference on Building Pathology and Rehabilitation, Porto, Portugal, 18-20 March 2009
The aim is to stimulate reflection on construction pathology with attention for particular areas: responsibilities, guarantees and insurance; structural pathologies; hygrothermal behavior of buildings; costs resulting from poor quality, durability and diagnostic techniques.

W062 - Water Supply and Drainage: Proceedings of the 34th International Symposium, September 2008
The conference Proceedings collected forty-three technical papers on water demands and consumptions, hot water system designs, water quality, water system planning and standardization, testing and evaluations for drainage systems, modelling, sustainable designs and planning.
Education for Open Architecture
These are the proceedings from the conference on teaching methods for an open architecture. There were lectures and in-depth discussion of peer-reviewed papers from W104 on Open Building Implementation and W110 on Informal Settlements and Affordable Housing.
W112 - Culture in Construction: Securing High Performance through Cultural Awareness and Dispute Avoidance
These proceedings from the conference in Shanghai, 2008 examine the subject areas of Culture, and dispute avoidance with a view to integrate the concept and procedures to enable improvement in performance. An important aspect of context for the conference is multi-national construction projects.

The European standard for sandwich panels covers requirements and verification methods for factory made sandwich panel products. These new and free downloadable recommendations update procedures for fastenings and extend the concept to include fastenings fixed in a face layer.
