Report of the Conference on Global Innovation in Construction Conference 2009 (GICC), Loughborough, United Kingdom
All leading academic institutions now recognise that research and its publication is not an end in itself but the purpose has to benefit industry and through a more cost effective, efficient and technologically advanced industry to benefit society. This was the rationale for GICC 2009.
W096 - Architectural Management: Report of the W096 Conference Future Directions in Architectural Management held in Tainan, Taiwan, November 2009
The theme of the conference was ‘Future directions in Architectural Management’. The conference attracted delegates from Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing architects and fellow built environment professionals.
W101 - Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Development: Workshop Report Urban Infrastructure and Land Use Control
Discussions and presentations were focussed on the following topics: Provision of Public Services and Land Use Control; Public Transport Revival and Development Control; Smart Management of Urban Infrastructure in Shrinking Era; and Regulation and Deregulation on Urban Land Use, Success and Failure.
W108 - Climate Change and the Built Environment: New W108 Website
W108 launched a new website for Climate Change and the Built Environment. Among others information can be found about a new project, that is to result in a report including National Perspectives and an International Synthesis on Sustainable Climate Change Adaptation.

The conference has the following topics: Best Value Fundamentals; Decision Making: Creation of Risk; Case Studies/Results; Organizational Change and Measurement; and Strategic Planning. Commission W117 is organising its 5th Annual Meeting in conjunction with the conference.
W108 - Climate Change and the Built Environment: Special Track CIB World Congress 2010: Adaptation of the Built Environment to Climate Change Impacts Policies
The topics to be discussed at this special track on adaptation of the built environment to climate changes impacts policies are: Examples of adaptation policies; State of development of adaptation policies; Adaptation and sustainability and Adaptation and territorial scales.
CIB World Building Congress: Congress Preparations - To the Next Phase..., Salford Quays, United Kingdom, 10-13 May 2010
The article contains a brief practical update about the progress of the congress so far. Almost 1000 abstracts from all over the world have been received. A list of the accepted abstracts is listed on the congress' website. Registration for the congress is now open.
W101 - Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Development: Special Track at CIB World Building Congress, Salford Quays, United Kingdom, May 2010
The theme of this track will be: Urban Regeneration - past, current and lessons for the future. Papers are invited on among others: Brown Field Conversions, what's the real leverage?; Design for Climate Change in Urban Regeneration; and Urban Renewal Projects, Success and Failure.
SB10 Maastricht: Euregional Conference Sustainable Building - Towards 0-impact Buildings and Environment, 11-13 October 2010
The main aim of the conference will be to focus at front running developments, in environmental performance at building and urban level. Keywords are zero impact and climate neutral. Four universities and organisations from three countries are organising this conference.
W080 - Prediction of Service Life of Building Materials and Components: 12th International Conference on Durability of Building Materials and Components, Porto, Portugal, 12-15 April 2011
The conference themes will include among others: building physics and durability; service life prediction methodologies; durability approach for historical and old buildings; building pathology vs. durability; asset and maintenance management; and standardization and regulations.
SB11: World Sustainable Building Conference - First Announcement, Helsinki, Finland, 18-21 October 2011
The aim of the conference is to share leading knowledge and to find new solutions which can enhance sustainable ways of living and working within built environments. New opportunities for improving quality of life, mitigating effects of climate change and making new business are addressed for.

TG53 - Postgraduate Research Training in Building and Construction and TG63 - Disasters and the Built Environment: Post Disaster Recovery Challenges in Sri Lanka
This book is a free downloadable collection of research papers based on a series of undergraduate research works carried out in Sri Lanka in 2007. The papers were submitted to, peer reviewed and accepted for a special session of the CIB International Conference on Building Education and Research (BEAR 2008).

The proceedings contain keynote speeches, expanded abstracts and 12 full papers on topics like: structural and semantic approach for the assessment of building environmental quality and a wiki approach to share construction domain knowledge. They will soon be downloadable for free from ICONDA.
CIB White Paper on IDDS: Integrated Design & Delivery Solutions
The CIB Priority Theme, Integrated Design and Delivery Solutions (IDDS), has been under development since early 2006. The first IDDS Conference held in Finland in June 2009 resulted in this free downloadable CIB IDDS White Paper, the recipients of which are encouraged to comment to the Theme Coordinator.

Ecobuildings Cluster: Progress Report
The Ecobuildings cluster supports the development and the dissemination of new approaches to sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, their design, construction and operation both in new and refurbished form. It includes three projects: INTECO BUILD, SMART-ECO and ECO-BUILD.

Valter Esposti Passed Away
On 4th December the sad news was announced that Valter Esposti has passed away after a long and incurable disease. He has been the former Director of among others ITC - Construction Technologies Institute and has been an active CIB Board Member. He was CIB Treasurer for the period 2001-2004.

Since the previous news article on new CIB Members last October we have installed 6 new Members: 3 Associate Members and 3 Individual Members. The spread over the types of organisations is as follows: one Associate Member is a Building Consultant and the other two are Universities.
