TG85 - R&D Investment and Impact: Introducing a New Task Group and its Joint Coordinators
This new Task Group will focus on building better understandings of R&D investment practice globally, including retrospective analysis of past investments and their impact; and building prospective considerations for improved mechanisms for dissemination and uptake of R&D.

Among the assertions discussed was that the best value PIPS model is a vendor centred model, as well as a buyer model to deliver services. An optimal buyer best value model is where the vendors are using the best value model as their operating model.
W117 - Performance Measurement in Construction: Report on the W117 Dutch Platform Meeting and Activities
Issues that were addressed included: latest updates from the U.S. in implementing best value PIPS, the description in the W117 journal of the Dutch implementation of best value PIPS and the possibility of NEVI (Dutch professional procurement organization) getting involved in education of best value PIPS.

Six keynote speakers for the conference are being introduced. Among the topic areas are: prevention of accidents through design, achieving the goal of zero incidents, aging workforce in construction, best practices and benchmarking and communicable diseases on construction sites.
W114 - Earthquake Engineering and Buildings: Session on "Harmonization of Design Codes for Seismically Isolated Buildings", Sochi, Russia, 20-23 September 2011
Papers are invited which address the following topics: introduction of application of seismically isolated buildings, the design code of seismically isolated buildings, design example using a benchmark building, and other topics like the effect of seismic isolation in recent earthquakes.
SB11 Helsinki - World Sustainable Building, Helsinki, Finland, 18-21 October 2011
Updated news is given about the Conference including the announcement that the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, has agreed to act as benefactor to the SB11 Conference. Pekka Haavisto, a Member of the Finnish Parliament, is one of the keynote speakers at SB11 Helsinki.

W110 will organize its own international conference on Informal Settlements and Affordable Housing in conjunction with this Conference.
W110 - Informal Settlements and Affordable Housing: Conference on Sustainable Human Settlements: The Urban Challenge, Pretoria, South Africa, 17-21 September 2012
A special focus is on Ecological Sanitation in Medium Density Mixed Housing and includes the presentation of a report on the joint South Africa/Indonesia project. It includes design challenges of urban medium-density mixed housing and residential open building in developing countries.

New International Topic-Oriented Student Chapter: W102 Information and Knowledge Management in Building Student Forum
The CIB W102 Student Chapter is a working group of PhD students. The aim of the Chapter is to exchange research themes, concepts, and findings, to develop collaboration on joint research topics and to disseminate the research through conferences, workshops and networking events.

The aim is to interchange research ideas and outcomes, to collaborate on research processes and information dissemination, and to organize workshops and social networking events. The Chapter's objective is to provide an active and supportive community for students worldwide.
CIB Sebestyen Future Leaders Award 2011: Announcement of the Winner
The winner is the proposal submitted by the CIB Student Chapter at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Among the proposal objectives are: to measure the degree of construction industrialization and to produce a report on suggestions on implementing construction industrialization.
