W112 - Culture in Construction: Meeting Report "Future Strategy", June 2011
The meeting comprised of two main parts, one being about the role of culture in construction, and the other about the future strategy for the Commission. Also outputs were discussed, including the recently published book "Culture in International Construction" and a special journal issue.

101st Board Meeting, Helsinki, Finland, 16-17 October 2011
A new CIB Priority Theme "Construction and Society" is being developed and has been chosen as the main congress theme for the 2013 CIB World Building Congress. The Board adopted the concept of "Defined Commission Products". Two new CIB Regional Offices will be set up in Tokyo, Japan and Dubai, UAE.

New SB Conference Series
Early this year the global co-sponsors issued a Call for Proposals for the new SB13 and SB14 conferences. From the detailed proposals received the co-sponsors selected 8 proposals for SB13 conferences, and the best proposal submitted for the SB14 conference.

The conference is dedicated to the latest broad achievements in research, development, standardisation and industrial implementation of advanced Computing, ICT and Knowledge Management (KM) in the Construction sector and the Built Environment. Also thematic workshops are organised.
W116 - Smart and Sustainable Built Environments: SASBE2012 - Smart and Sustainable Built Environments, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 28-30 June 2012
Among the conference themes are: infrastructure, districts, cities and the community, design, development and operation of smart and healthy workplace and living environments, and management of knowledge on innovation and sustainability for the built environment.
TG83 - e-Business in Construction Meeting in conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Innovation in Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Sao Paulo, 15-17 August 2012 - Call for Papers
Topics for papers may include: fundamentals of e-Business in the construction context; strategic drivers, benefits and barriers to e-Business; strategic e-Business approaches such as e-Procurement and e-Trading; and lessons from other industry sectors applicable to construction.
W099 - Safety and Health in Construction: International Conference on "Modelling and Building Safety", Singapore, 10-11 September 2012
Papers are invited on topics like: achieving the goal of zero incidents, behaviour based safety, best practices in safety and health, building information modelling & safety, client involvement in construction safety and health, and costs of injuries and costs of safety and health.
SB13 Munich - Sustainable Building Conference: First Announcement, Munich, Germany, 10-12 April 2013
The Conference theme is: Implementing Sustainability - Barriers and Chances. It is based on the following five topics: political frameworks; sustainable urban and regional planning; design, architecture and education; methodologies and tools; and technologies, material and product innovations.
CIB World Building Congress 2013: First Announcement, Brisbane, Australia, 5-9 May 2013
The congress theme is "Construction and Society". This is about the role construction plays in the development of society, the contribution by the construction industry to major societal themes and challenges and the perception of construction's relevance to society.
CESB13 Prague - Sustainable Building Conference: Central Europe Towards Sustainable Building, Prague, Czech Republic, 26-28 June 2013
The Conference scope is sustainable building and refurbishment for next generations. Amongst the suggested topics are sustainable refurbishment of existing building stock, low-tech and high-tech materials and technologies for buildings and new generation of energy optimized buildings.
SB13 Graz - Sustainable Building Conference: First Announcement, Graz, Austria, 26-28 September 2013
This international conference will deal with sustainable buildings, construction products and technologies. It will consider evaluation and certification, design and planning, innovation and technology, and best practice examples. Amongst the suggested topics are blue buildings, green products and retrofitting.
SB14 Barcelona - World Sustainable Building Conference, Barcelona, Spain, October 2014
The SB14 Conference intends to truly offer a critical revision of the many country/regional situations regarding building construction and urban development in the world, so that best practices can be widespread and other integrative, collaborative global level proposals can arise.

This free downloadable report provides an overview of construction waste reduction activities across the world through a series of country reports. Key issues addressed include: benchmarks for waste production, composition and causes of waste, financial and environmental cost of waste.
Proceedings of the World Sustainable Building Conference SB11
The 6th World Sustainable Building (SB) Conference, SB11 Helsinki, addressed new opportunities for improving quality of life, mitigating the effects of climate change and making new business. Expert contributions are included from over 50 countries.
W110 - Informal Settlements and Affordable Housing: Proceedings - Local Wisdom in Global Era: Enhancing the Locality in Architecture, Housing and Urban Environment
There are three sub-themes: indigenous architecture as a basic architectural design; informal settlement as a basic development for housing improvement; and harmony in nature for sustainable urban development. Papers were provided by more than 60 presenters from 10 different countries.
W107 - Construction in Developing Countries: Two New Publications
Two new publications have been published with George Ofori as the editor of both: Contemporary Issues in Construction in Developing Countries and New Perspectives in Construction in Developing Countries. CIB Members will receive a 20% discount when they buy any of these publications.

Among the topics papers are invited for are: impact of occupants behaviours on energy use, influence of lifestyle on energy consumption, monitoring techniques for occupants behaviour, smart meters and displays for influencing occupants, and case studies on occupants' behaviour analysis.
Intelligent Buildings International: Special Issue - From Intelligent to Smart Cities
Papers in this CIB Encouraged Journal capture definitional components and document critical insights in terms of: intelligent cities, smart cities and smart cities as places where it all comes together with master-plans and design codes. Some of the papers are free downloadable.
Building Research & Information, Special Issue: New Professionalism, Call for Papers

Since the previous news article on new CIB Members last July we have installed 2 new Members: 1 Associate Member and 1 Individual Member. These are from India and South Africa. The new Associate Member is the University of Johannesburg, School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment.
