Vision:

The W116 Student Forum, the student chapter of CIB W116, is a working group of PhD, master and bachelor students on topics related to smart and sustainable built environments. The aim is to interchange research ideas and outcomes, to collaborate on research processes and information dissemination, and to organise workshops and social networking events.

The W116 Student Forum aims to provide an active and supportive community for students worldwide and has a number of specific objectives:

  • international cooperation between the universities and students involved
  • an international website and discussion group
  • publications resulting from the research cooperation
  • organise workshops at SB11 and SASBE2012
  • a book with research outcome on a W116 theme (expected at SASBE2012)

Programme:

The priority tasks for the new W116 Student Forum are already in progress, and are as follows:

  • Establishing a website linked to www.cibw116.org will support external communication, especially with other CIB Student Chapters. Here publications will be uploaded and events and workshops announced.
  • Establish a membership list.
  • Create a group account for internal communication and sharing of documents.
  • Encouraging the use of informal communication and social networking through websites as Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Organising a first workshop for the SB11 world sustainable building conference (Helsinki, Finland, 18-21 October 2011) and a full day programme for SASBE2012 (Sao Paulo, Brazil, May 2012)

As tradition has it, the newest CIB international conference on Smart and Sustainable Built Environments, SASBE2012, will be hosted primarily by CIB W116, and the W116 Student Forum will play an important role in the event and road towards it.
